Thats very good advice Steve, and something which I've encountered first hand after making an home contents claim after some major flooding damage at an old property of mine. We ended up losing out substantially as we had massively under valued our contents. As you say it was primarily due to all the little items, which really do add up. Take heed folks!
I just wanted to let you all know how important it can be to make sure you've correctly estimated your home contents value. It's one of the more common mistakes people can make when trying to put together the best home insurance package. Don't underestimate things - it all adds up. Consider not only the big ticket items such as TV, DVD, stereo, whiteware, jewelery and furniture, but also more accurate estimates of clothing/footwear, small appliances, music/film collections - even things such as bedding, rugs, and curtains. All of these and more can substantially increase your total home contents value, and if you're under insured you may find yourself in real trouble when you attempt to put your life back together after a major claim.
